Report Round 10:

On Board 1, The encounter between too Chinese Grandmaster in French defence finishes in draw after 24 Moves. On Board 2  battle was in Semi Slav defence that ended after move, but on Board 3 Zhao Jun from China and IM Anton Filippov from Uzbekistan accept draw only after 1.5 move. Game of board 4 between GM Kunte from India and GM Mageranto from Indonesia was the game that ended as the last and after 5.5 hours, the game was Slav defence and Grandmaster Mageranto at the Endgame was very near to win the game.

Zhang Pengxiang solo leader with 7 points!

On board 1, GM Zhang Pengxiang from China with white pieces beat GM Mohamad Al-Modiahki to lead alone to reach the Asian Champion title, the game was Rossolimo variation of Sicilian defence that finish after 56 move in a funny rook endgame. Other leader of tournament couldn't receive complete score of their games and lose the leadership. Between players who had 5.5  points only GM Wang Hoa from China could won his game and join the new second ranked players. IM Laylo Darwin from Philippines successfully made his last GM Norm with draw on the second board with GM Zhao Jun from China. See top 6 games of round 9

3 Players at top!

On Board 1, GM Neelotpal Das from India and GM Zhang PengXiang from China accept draw Same happened on Board 2 between 2 Chinese Grandmaster Zhao Jun and Wang Hao; but on board 3 Grandmaster Megaranto from Indonesia beat IM Hussein Enamul from Bangladesh to again Join the top players.Between other players that had 4.5 points, GM Al-Modiahiki from Qatar, IM Gopal, IM WenYang and GM Abhijit Kunte from India and IM Laylo Darwin from Philippines won their games and with 5.5 points went for more chances to qualify from tournament.

Chinese day !

Round 8 was day for Chinese players, they were successful in all the top boards, on board 1 GM Zhang PengXiang beat GM Megarento and bring him down from top, on board 2 GM Zhao Jun beat IM Negi Parimarjan, on board 3 GM Zhou Jianchao beat IM Gopal, on board 4 Wang Hoa beat GM Antonio.

Ranking after round 7: 1-2. GM Zhao Jun and hang PengXiang both from China with 5.5 points. 3-6 GM Mageranto from Indonesia, GM Wang Hao from China , IM Neelotpal Das form India, GM Zhou Jianchao from China  and IM Hussein Enamul from Bangladesh and 13 players with 4.5 points follow them.

Report Round 6:

17 Draw in top 20 Boards!?

In round 6 most of the efforts on top 20 boards ended in draw only IM Negi Pramajan from India, GM Eugine Torre from Philippines and IM Mahjoob from Iran could win their games with black pieces. Therefore ranking didn't change so much and still GM Mageranto Sole lead only No. of players at the second rank increase to 4.

Games were drawn on all top 5 Boards. GM Mageranto from Indonesia retains the lead with 4.5 Points out of 5 rounds. IM Gopal from India , GM Zhao Chu  and GM Zhang Pengxiang both from China follow with 4 points, and 11 players have 3.5 points.

GM Susanto Mageranto (2554) from Indonesia sole lead with 4 points after beat Grandmaster Wang Hao (2626) from China with black pieces in Carokan Defence Advance Variation. on board two Grandmaster Zhang PengXiang (2649) from China with white pieces beat IM Gopal G.N. (2480) from India in g3 variation of Sicilian defence against Najdorf variation. on Board 3 grandmaster Li Chao and Zhou Jianchao both from China agree for draw afrer 13 move in Evans Gambit. On board 4 Grandmaster Zhao Jun (2558) from China beat in English openning Grandmaster Le Quang Liem (2542) from Vietnam to Join Wang Hao with 3.5 points.

A FIDE Arbiters` Seminar was held at the Cebu International Convention Center in Cebu City Philippines. Lecturers were FIDE Honorary President Florencio Campomanes, FIDE Secretary General Ignatius Leong of Singapore, FIDE Technical Commission Chairman Dr. Andrzej Filipowicz of Poland, Asian Chess Federaiton Deputy President Casto Abundo and Treasurer Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh from Iran. 

 

ASEAN Board Meeting in Cebu

The ASEAN Chess Association announced the organization of a Grand Prix series. Six open tournaments are scheduled with three in the Philippines and one each in Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia. more at the ASEAN Chess Confederation website: www.aseanchess.com

The VI Asian Individual Championship starts today at the new Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) in Cebu City, Philippines, site of the recent ASEAN Summit among heads of state of the ten nation organization.
